Rep. Reyes Tours Up-Armored Humvee

Congressman Reyes calls for increased body armor and vehicle armor for soldiers serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Concerned by reports of insufficient body and vehicle armor for our soldiers in Iraq, Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-El Paso) voiced the need for increased numbers of vehicle armor and body armor today.

Reyes got a firsthand look at equipment our soldiers are using in Iraq today through ArmorWorks , a Tempe, AZ-based company. Armorworks displayed an armored HMMWV (Humvee), on Capitol Hill, giving Members of Congress an opportunity to inspect one of the solutions for needed armor to protect our troops from small arms fire and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“The need for increased numbers of vehicle armor and body armor is immediate. Our soldiers continue to monitor a highly volatile environment, as IEDs explode on a regular basis. This postwar occupation is costing us our nation’s best and brightest. We need to do everything we can to save our soldiers’ lives. Loss of life or injury due to insufficient equipment is reprehensible. I have long pledged to support our troops and give them the resources to do their jobs and stay safe. We need to get this equipment to our soldiers immediately.”
