Tempe-based ArmorWorks has received a multiyear, U.S. Department of Defense delivery order that represents about $500 million in ceramic body armor plate production for U.S. troops worldwide.

The company manufactures military body, aircraft, vehicle and energy-absorbing armor systems.

The indefinite delivery/ indefinite quantity contracts are for ceramic plates that are inserted into the front and back pockets of protective vests, and provide protection against bullets and shrapnel.

"We are pleased to provide our military with the finest production available," Bill Perciballi, ArmorWorks president and CEO, said in a statement.

"Thanks to the continued efforts of our dedicated employees, these contracts secure our position as the leading small arms protective inserts supplier to the U.S. military."

The company wasn’t available for additional information. Earlier this year, Armor-Works was awarded a contract valued at $9.2 million to supply deployed Air Force personnel with protective ceramic armor plates.

Also, it was awarded a contract to supply Marines with protective armor vest inserts.
That contract is valued at $5.85 million.

ArmorWorks also is supplying its Humvee Ballistic Advantage Armor Kits to the military to protect vehicles against improvised explosive devices and other enemy threats. ArmorWorks was founded in 1996.
