KPHO Phoenix
4/28/2004
(WASHINGTON)
- Congressman J.D. Hayworth announced Tuesday that Tempe-based
ArmorWorks is being awarded a $5.849,655 contract to supply
small arms protective inserts in vests worn by Marines in
combat.
The ceramic
plates are inserted into the front and back of the protective
vests to increase a soldier's capability to defeat small arms
rifle fire.
Work will
be performed in Tempe and is expected to be completed by August
2004. The Marine Corps Systems Command is the contracting
agency.
ArmorWorks
also manufactures body, aircraft, vehicle and energy absorbing
armor systems for other branches of the U.S. armed services.
A Humvee equipped with protective ceramic plates by ArmorWorks
will be on display in Washington on Wednesday during a news
conference with Congressman Hayworth.
